My favourite costumes from film and television

The most spectacular costumes I've seen in movies and TV series.

Fantasy - unknown historic time period

Mirror Mirror

The inspiration is hybrid classic from 16th century to 19th century design. Julia Roberts, who plays the wicked stepmother in this Snow White inspired film, had over 100,000 Swarovski crystals sewn into three dresses.

Game of thrones

Here's another example of the villainess getting some of the best outfits, and I love it. While Daenerys looks as ravishing as she does because of the ash blonde wig, Cersei Lannister gets the costumes. I'm such a big fan of layers and the exaggerated sleeves.

18th Century

Marie Antoinette

This one is my all time favorites. It uses the post modern technique of pastiche to mix the fitted corseted bodices and full skirts of French aristocracy with Manolo Blahnik shoes. It's over the top, feminine and glamorous.

19th Century

Anna Karenina

Set in 1874 Imperial Russia, it captures the high society of Moscow and Saint Petersburg in all its finest.

20th Century (the 60's)

Mad Men

When it comes to the 60's Mad Men's got it down to a T - from sexy in the board room to sexy at home. And while I don't usually look at men's clothes you can help but get drawn in by Don Draper looking oh so dapper in his well cut suits.

21st Century (modern)

The Devil wears Prada

Anne Hathaway would look great in a gunnysack (as shes proven in Les Mis) but this movie is a fashion parade on a stunning model with one great outfit after another. And the best part is it's all very wearable.

Sex and the City

There were undoubtedly some fashion disasters here, in the show and the movies, but there was also some great fashion inspiration. And while some of the trends were a little too fashion forward some of their runway looks did translate into stylish everyday wear. As for the movies, the clothes were the only thing that made them somewhat watchable.

So You Think You Can Dance

I'm not sure a reality show belongs on a list like this, but I am impressed. It can't be easy churning out sultry Latin, cheeky Broadway and avant-garde goth all in one episode! Add to that the outfits need to be practical enough to dance in!

Is there  something you think I've missed out? What would be on your list?
